Butikku comes to Regent Street

posted by Butikku Admin on

After 4 years of travelling around London, in the form of 19 popup shops, we've finally made it back to the heart of London's West End. Our second ever popup event was on Piccadilly over the Christmas period of 2013, where we allotted about three square meters in a spaced shared with ten other small brands (see our old blog). But now we're back and this time we have a place we can truly call home. We've been lucky enough to work with a couple of friends on this new space: Soho+Co is a boutique architecture/design firm, and founders Tom and Jasmin are both hugely interested in Japanese design and culture. It's no surprise then that they have become something of a 'go to'...

The story of Tanabata

posted by Butikku Admin on

Tanabata is the story of two lovers, which developed in Japan around the 8th century as a variation of an older Chinese story.  Orihime (織姫 Weaving Princess), daughter of the Tentei (天帝 Sky King, or the universe itself), wove beautiful clothes by the bank of the Amanogawa (天の川 Milky Way, lit. "heavenly river"). Her father loved the cloth that she wove and so she worked very hard every day to weave it. However, Orihime was sad that because of her hard work she could never meet and fall in love with anyone. Concerned about his daughter, Tentei arranged for her to meet Hikoboshi (彦星 Cowman/Cowherd Star, or literally Boy Star) (also referred to as Kengyuu (牽牛)) who lived and worked on the other side of the Amanogawa. When the two met, they fell instantly...
